Trying not to be a slacker...

Two days in a row! Three different images! I'm on a roll, let's see if I can keep it up. I'm gonna try and finish this beforeI go to sleep, so I can start on a new one tomorrow. Lines by Ray Anthony Height (http://raheight.deviantart.com)

I'm a slacker

I haven't really done much lately, I don't have any excuses, except that I was busy.....which really isn't an excuse.

Batman

I whipped this up last night.  This piece I've had sitting around and waiting to be flatted for sometime now.  I did my first real extensive work with textures on this piece, applying a stucco type texture to the wall and a brick texture to the underlying exposed areas.  The neon I think I need a little more practice with, and I need to see a neon light blasted by a spotlight, because I don't think what I did with the lighting was correct.  Regardless I think it turned out pretty good.

Heh, not a whole lot more done. I have only gotten to put in maybe an hour or two since my last update, but the hair is almost done! I might have a whole day (MAYBE TWO!!!) to work on it this coming weekend, we'll see!

Emma Frost WIP

I've been working on this piece in my spare time for a few days now (I don't have a whole lot of spare time at the moment). I really like what I'm turning out so far. I'm going for a painted style over the line art (another piece by Mike S. Miller). I most likely won't incorporate the lineart in the final piece, just because I'm going for a realistic style (well at least as real as I can make it. I also plan on adding a full background, something not in the original drawing.

I recently found a bunch of pieces I had flatted a while ago, which I thought I lost, so I'll be coloring them up at some point. You'll probably see them finished before this piece even, because I expect this one to take a while at the rate I'm going.

This is an image I completed a little while ago. I only had access to the low-res image at the time of coloring it, so it's not high quality or anything, but ti still came out pretty good. The original line art was done by Mike S. Miller (http://underdogmike.deviantart.com).

I'm terrible at remembering to take progress pics, so this isn't that in depth, but I'll explain what you see. The first is obviously the original line art. Panel 2 is my flat colors for quick selections. Panel 3 is the background. I started with that to make sure that Sheena wasn't over saturated. Panel 4 is the initial colors for Sheena. In panel 5 I adjusted hues and shading to make her appear more under the trees in the shade. The last panel is the final image, I adjusted the shading on the tree to make it appear more natural for the pic.

First Post!

Hello everyone! My name is Chris Shields, and I like colors. Chances are if you're here this early in the game, you know (of) me and already know that. I have a deviantART page (http://chrisshields.deviantart.com) where you can find most of my work right now. I am a colorist, not yet a published colorist, but a colorist nonetheless. I'll be posting up lots of my work here, a majority of it in the progress stages, with thoughts and comments about my processes and stuff. The DA page will only be getting finished stuff from here on out. I'll probably post some sketches here once in a while even though I suck at drawing. I guess that's it for now!
